Says Labour Trans Equality in a response to a Government Consultation on Gender Neutral Toilet Facilities
“The review I have launched today will help all self identifying women, irrespective of whether they are also trans feminine, non binary or gender diverse including pre-operative trans men be assured of the adequate provision of safe and secure publically available toilet facilities.
We want to maintain safeguards that protect the availability of inclusive toilet facilities for all women including trans, non-binary and other gender diverse people “
Robert Jenrick Secretary of State for Housing Communities and Local Government did not use these words but this is how he should have properly acknowledged the concerns of all women and pre-operative trans men about this issue
The simple fact, is that there are not enough safe and secure public toilet facilities for women, gender neutral or otherwise.
Emily Brothers of Labour Trans Equality said………………
“How many times, have women been confronted with lengthy queues when needing to use toilet facilities whether they be in outside public spaces, cinemas, galleries, museums, theatres and so on. “
She went on..
“More accessible women’s toilet facilities of both kinds are needed. But Gender Neutral Loos must be properly designed with floor to ceiling cubicles ideally containing handwashing facilities.
The closure and deterioration of public toilet facilities has led to “Slum Loos” !”
Labour Trans Equality calls on Robert Jenrick and the Government to use the review to promote provision of safe and secure publically available toilet facilities for all women including trans, non-binary and other gender diverse people “
